The Boss Series: Women Who Rule the World from Home

One of my favorite things to do is to ask questions.

Maybe I don’t always ask every question out loud 😅, but I’m always asking.

Since moving to Vienna seven years ago, I’ve dabbled in this and that and everything else, always with the underlying, nagging, uncomfortable question: is this what I’m supposed to be doing?

It never was.

So several months ago, I got this wild — and very unoriginal — idea that to really love what I do…

I should do what I love. 💡

Alright, well, that meant:

  • Writing for a living

  • Choosing my own projects

  • Setting my own schedule

  • Owning my time

  • Having the freedom to take courses that will help me become a better writer/marketer/person

Then, the burning question became:

Is Working from Home Really as Glamorous as it Seems?

To test the waters, I joined a 5-day Remote Job Bootcamp, which got me curious. 🤔

Then to kick things off, I joined the Freedom Finders Program, which lit a fire under my butt and challenged me to get started in my new, remote, freelance life with the right mindset and a few extra tools in my belt. 💪🏻

Then, I got to work.

I started freelance writing.

It didn't take me very long to learn that to be successful with this new work lifestyle, I was going to have to

  1. Learn how and when to say “no”

  2. Know my worth and become my own advocate

  3. Be very meticulous about time-management and productivity

Those first two were doozies.

The third was easy for me, though. I'm really organized — I geek out over productivity software and apps, and get pretty nerdy about testing new time-management methods — so even though working from home has its challenges, I’m well-suited for the role.

My new work lifestyle got me thinking, though. What can I learn from some seasoned, successful, work-at-home women and at-home entrepreneurs? What are their secrets? What other struggles should I prepare myself for?

And, how can I help other women who dream of working from home, who are also trying to learn the ropes of freelancing or working remotely?

The answer: a new interview series.

The Boss Series: Women Who Rule the World from Home

My goal for this series is to shed light on the hurdles and challenges of the freelance/remote/work-at-home lifestyle, but also to encourage and give hope to women who dream of freedom from their cubicles.

I want to prove that it's possible to change careers — or to pursue any other type of work-related freedom — and I want to do that by sharing “case studies” of women who have done exactly that!

The Boss Series Line-up

Throughout the next few months, you’ll hear from some ladies I admire spanning a wide range of careers in a wide range of industries:

I hope you’ll be as inspired by these women as I have been, and will feel empowered to take that leap into doing what you love.

Stay tuned for the first interview, coming soon!
