The Importance of Gathering // Billion Family Dinners Challenge and GIVEAWAY

Fall is crazy, my friends. Life, in general, is crazy, but somehow, whenever fall rolls around, as beautiful and colorful as it is, with its fog and frost, crisp air and crispy leaves, life seems to get a little more hustly-bustly.

Even if you're not a student or teacher, and even if you don't have kids of your own going to school, the shift fall brings is there, and it affects you and your routine in some way. You may avoid streets or shops at certain times of the day due to the increase in road and foot traffic, fall series are premiering on television, your wardrobe is most likely changing, the menu is changing at Starbucks; there's some sort of change in the air -- literally and metaphorically -- almost everywhere.

Fall is a time of new beginnings, new routines, and new schedules, and sometimes things are forgotten or overlooked as we all try to adjust.

That's why, for the next two weeks, I am going to join the Billion Family Dinners Challenge to track 10 family dinners in 2 weeks, and it'd be even more fun if you'd join me!

The point of the Billion Family Dinners Challenge is not to pretend that getting everyone around the dinner table is always easy. In fact, sometimes it's almost impossible, especially in our family with a super-active and always ready-to-play six year old, and an almost-one year old who gets bored sitting in his high chair for more than five minutes at a time. But dinner is something we need to do together, no matter how inconvenient it seems sometimes. Not only is dinner simply more enjoyable when you're with the people you love, but also, there are very serious social and health benefits to eating together!

If you need more convincing, click ⟶here⟵ to watch a short but very educational video explaining a few of the benefits of family dinners.

So listen: the 10 in 2 challenge is simple. All we have to do is sit down to 10 family meals in the next 2 weeks. The theory is that in just 10 meals, we’ll begin to see a difference; in just 10 meals, dinnertime will be something our families look forward to each evening.

And you know what? I'm not that skilled in the kitchen (photo evidence ⟶), but more important than what we’re eating is the fact that we’re enjoying a meal with at least one other person, unplugged. That’s family dinner. So whether we eat a fancy five-course meal or order delivery pizza, I'm in

Want to join me? It's so easy. Download the DinnerCall app from the App Store or the Google Play Store, and start tracking and sharing your meals! Don't forget to share pictures (photo evidence is important); tag @DinnerCall and use the hashtag #BillionDinners on social media!
