Doodling Through Luke 10 - Part 2

Doodling Through Luke 10 - Part 2

So let's continue where we left off, sort of, in Luke 10.

I present to you, My Second Aha! Moment:

Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
— Luke 10:19-20

It seems to me that in some circles, our spiritual gifts and the authority that's been given to us as Brothers and Sisters in Christ are weighed a bit too heavily, when seen in the grand scheme of things

Stay with me, here...

They are amazing, the gifts we've been given. We (some much better than others) can sing, we can dance, we can paint, write, craft, tell stories, teach; there are some who claim to be able to physically see the spiritual realm; some people speak in tongues; some are so tuned-in to the Spirit that they are overcome by convulsions, and some are brought to laughing hysterically on the floor. There are the gifts of physical healing, casting out demons, prophesy, and the list goes on.

The point is, though, that whether you can or cannot sing in tune, or whether you can or cannot heal someone of their inability to walk, there is something even greater. There is something even greater and more exciting than the spiritual gifts we have. It's redemption, and the reason we are free: Jesus

We most definitely should rejoice in our gifts and the gifts of others, sure, but as it says in my study bible, "our greatest cause for rejoicing should be our salvation."

So let's not forget to rejoice in what's already been done, not only in what Jesus has enabled us to do.

There is something even greater than our spiritual gifts. It's the reason we are free: Jesus.
